Concept

Our pre-accelerator Beyond has enjoyed great success in Bulgaria. As a result, Junior Achievement and Novartis have decided to expand the application of the pre-accelerator by embarking on a collaborative project in Europe, to be piloted in the ECC region, aimed at leveraging technology and “start-up” thinking in the medical field.

By establishing a series of pre-accelerator hubs in digital health and innovation, we aim to generate a stronger ecosystem of innovators who will work to reimagine medicine as we know it.

One of the defining features of the future will be closer collaboration across sectors that have traditionally existed in separate and limited silos, and scaling-up local initiatives to regional and global levels. Tremendous potential for innovation and progress awaits those who master the ability to work in a network-centric fashion, and we intend to lead the way.

Next steps until 2021

01
Feasibility study & Stakeholder mapping
We will carry out a feasibility study in order to determine the existing conditions and our chances of success in each of the participating countries: Serbia, Croatia, Cyprus, Malta, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. It will involve both research on various key parameters that will help us determine how to proceed with the project, as well as a stakeholder mapping exercise. As part of the project we are looking for ecosystem partners in each of these countries, who will be interested in developing innovations in the medical field.

Collaborative design and development
02
Once we find the right stakeholders, we will start working together on the process of implementation. It will begin with a kick-off event, followed by several weeks of interactive co-creation between all stakeholders, where we will determine the key parameters of the innovation hubs.
Pre-accelerator adaptation
03
We will assess and adapt Beyond’s pre-accelerator model from Bulgaria to the unique environment of Serbia. A national-level conference will be organised, in order to communicate and showcase the pre-accelerator in Serbia.
European-level round-table event

04
In December 2020, the project will conclude the year with a high-level round table event in Brussels, aiming to raise awareness amongst European policy-makers around the key learnings and best practices from the project.
